The Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration is a historic athlete-driven initiative. It outlines a common set of aspirational rights and responsibilities for athletes within the Olympic Movement. It has been developed by athletes and for athletes through a worldwide consultation process to benefit Athletes globally. Athletes are at the heart of sport, and IOC wanted to continue our drive to strengthen support to them by making sure their voice is heard.

Following its adoption at the IOC Session in Buenos Aires in 2018, led by strong athlete representatives Steering Committee, it has been shaped by 4.292 elite athletes from 190 countries and more than 120 sports.

The IOC Athletes’ Commission assembles this Steering Committee that is composed of 19 athlete representatives from across the Olympic Movement: 10 from the International Federations, five from the Association of National Olympic Committees, one from the World Olympians Association and three from the IOC Athletes’ Commission. On August 23rd the ISSF Athletes Committee Chairman, Cassio RIPPEL and more five other athletes, have been selected as new International Federations athlete’s representative on the IOC Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration Steering Committee. By becoming a member, representing the ISSF is of paramount importance to the upcoming implementation phase of the Athletes’ Declaration for the benefit of the athletes’ community.

 

The meeting were the new members took office for the first time took place on last Saturday, Sept, 30th, in the Olympic House, in Lausanne, Switzerland. The meeting conducted by the Chairman Sarah WALKER, IOC Athletes Commission 2nd Vice-Chairman, covered important topics about the Adoption Status, the next Implementation phase of the Guidebook analyzing the Project background and the Guide development approach.

 

I am sure that Cassio, representing ISSF athletes of the world and our beloved sport inside the IOC, using his expertise and valuable experience in within the shooting sport and the athletes’ community will be a great asset to the Steering Committee”, said Luciano Rossi, ISSF President.

The Athletes’ Declaration covers important topics such as anti-doping, integrity, clean sport, career, communications, governance, non-discrimination, due process and protection from harassment and abuse. The work of the Steering Committee moving forward will be to continue supporting its adoption and especially its implementation, including collating best practices, supporting engagement and developing a guide to support NOCs and IFs all around the world in the implementation of the 12 rights of the Athletes’ Declaration.
