ISSF delighted to retain all disciplines at Olympic Games

Will work with IOC and LA 2028 to ensure optimum delivery at minimum cost

MUNICH – The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is delighted to be officially confirmed as part of the Sport Programme of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, maintaining its proud record of being part of every summer Olympic Games since the first of the modern era, back in 1896.

The decision to maintain the current programme of events of shooting sports (rifle, pistol, and shotgun) was based on recommendations by the Olympic Programme Commission (OPC) which were supported first by the IOC Executive Board and then officially ratified by the IOC Session, meeting in Mumbai today (Monday 16 October).

ISSF President Luciano Rossi said: “When I took over as President in December 2022 shooting sports were at real risk of being removed from the Olympics or of being present only with a reduced programme. Thanks to great teamwork by the ISSF Council, member federations, continental representatives, technical committee members and the ISSF Office, we have been able to maintain our current programme.”

The ISSF welcomes the opportunity to work with the IOC and the organising committee of LA2028 to reduce the cost and complexity of the Sport Programme and will now begin the work of carefully reviewing the delivery requirements to identify efficiencies and opportunities.

“We are entering an exciting period for the sport, with the Olympic Games Paris less than a year away,” said President Rossi. “ISSF will continue to review all its procedures and structures to help our federations and athletes to develop and thrive. Our technical teams will now ensure that we support the IOC, and LA2028, to maximise the popularity and impact of shooting at the Olympic Games in a way that is as cost effective as possible. “
