Georgia’s Mariami Prodiashvili secured a second gold at the European Championships 10m rifle and pistol in Gyor, Hungary today as she won the 10m air pistol women junior title.
Poland’s 17-year-old Ivan Rakitski won the 10m air pistol men junior event after a dramatic finale.
Prodiashvili, 20, who earned mixed team gold yesterday in partnership with Giorgi Mumladze, topped the morning qualifying and then dominated the women’s junior final.
She finished with a total of 242.2 points, comfortably clear of Slovenia’s 17-year-old Manja Slak, fourth in this event last year, who scored 237.6.
Bronze went to home shooter Olivia Domsits, second in qualifying, who went into the last three ahead Viktorie Sindlerova of the Czech Republic on bib number after both had totalled 194.9 after five of the elimination rounds.
Tugba Bugar of Turkey was fifth, one place ahead of Italy’s Alessandra Fait, with seventh place going to Latvia’s Kristiana Agule and Olha Lepska of Ukraine finishing eighth.
Rakitski held a 0.5 points lead over Germany’s Andreas Koeppl as they proceeded to their two final shots, and after his 9.6 had been answered by a 10.4 he found himself 0.3 behind.
The young Pole made only a marginal improvement on his final shot, a 9.7, but it proved enough as Koeppl’s last effort scored 9.1, giving Rakitski the gold 240.6 to 240.3.
Bronze went to Romania’s Luca Joldea, with Azerbaijan’s Vladislav Kalmikov finishing fourth, one place ahead of Georgia’s Mumladze.
Maksym Himon of Ukraine was sixth, Mattia Scodes of Italy seventh and Germany’s Eduard Baumeister eighth.
Himon’s third place in qualifying helped Ukraine win team gold ahead of Romania and Azerbaijan.
Earlier in the day Germany 1’s Nele Stark and Justus Ott won the 10m air rifle mixed team junior title, beating the Serbia 1 pairing of Aleksandra Havran and Aleksa Rakonjac 16-12.
Havran thus added silver to the junior women’s team gold she had won the day before.
Germany 2, in the form of Katrin Grabowski and Nils Palberg, completed the podium after winning their bronze-medal match against the Poland 1 pairing of Maja Gawenda and Jakub Goliszec 17-7.
