Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo has been unanimously elected as General Secretary of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

The voting took place during the ISSF’s Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting at the headquarters of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) in Rome which was attended by Kit McConnell, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sports Director and Giovanni Malagò, the CONI President.

“I am honoured by the trust shown to me by our Executive Committee members and I stand ready to work tirelessly on behalf of this great sport as we look forward to an Olympic year,” said Nicotra di San Giacomo, who previously worked as a special advisor to ISSF.

McConnell praised the close relationship between ISSF and the IOC and noted the way ISSF was working to minimise the complexity and costs of its sport.

He also noted the ISSF’s support for the IOC’s refugee programme heading towards Paris 2024, and the international federation’s strong commitment to the important and exciting field of esports.

The meeting included a detailed report from Peter Underhill, who is in charge of preparations for shooting at the Paris 2024 Games, where competition will take place at the national centre in Chateauroux.

ISSF accounts and the budget for 2024 were reviewed with a view to professionalising all existing structures.

ExCo members also had discussions about the establishment of a development fund to provide equipment to selected International Federations.
