Another challenging final was conducted under a heavy rain at the Sydney International Shooting Centre, where the Italian couple climbed atop the Trap Mixed Team podium, followed by India and the People’s Republic of China.
Italy’s 20-year-old Teo Petroni and 19-year-old Erica Sessa pocketed the Trap Mixed Team gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney (AUS), prevailing over India’s Manisha Keer (18) and Ali Aman Elahi (18), and over some very challenging weather conditions.
Indeed, under a heavy rain the poured on the range for the whole match, the Italian couple managed to nail a streak of 12 consecutive hits between shot number 30 and 41, definitely grabbing the lead and eventually landing on top of the podium.
Also, being the first official junior result officially recorded, the 38 out of 50 scored by Petroni and Sessa is the new Junior World Record in the Trap Mixed Team event. In 2nd position, Keer and Elahi finished with 34 hits out of 50 and the silver medals around their necks.
The bronze medal was awarded to People’s Republic of China’s Gao Wendi (20) and Li Cheng (19), who concluded their match at the 40th target mark with 28 hits. For Gao it’s the second medal in this competition, as she also took bronze two days ago in the Trap Women Junior event.
India’s second team — Kirti Gupta (17) and yesterday’s Trap Men Junior bronze medalist Vivaan Kapoor (16) — placed just outside of the podium, taking 4th place with 24 out of 35 hits, while a second Italian couple composed by Diana Ghilarducci (18) and Matteo Marongiu (18) followed in 5th place, crushing 21 out of 30 clays.
Eliminated after 25 targets, Great Britain’s Augusta Rose Campos-Martyn (19) and Michael William Oliver Bovington (16) finished in 6th position with 15 hits.
